Optimization of wind farm operation with a noise constraint

Abstract. This article presents a method for performing noise-constrained optimization of wind farms by changing the operational modes individual turbines. The is performed use TopFarm framework and farm flow modelling in PyWake as well two sound propagation models: ISO 9613-2 model parabolic equation model, WindSTAR. models introduce different levels complexity to problem, with WindSTAR taking broader range parameters, like acoustic ground impedance, complex terrain elevation field from noise source receptor, into account. Wind using each therefore atmospheric conditions source/receptor setups, compared through this study order evaluate advantage more model. focuses on flat including dwellings at which constraints are applied. By this, significant gain higher fidelity over simple farms. Thus, certain presented cases power up ∼53 % obtained estimate levels.
